From an admin seat: the Salesforce foundation is the whole point
I administer Sage People full time across 1400 employees in eight countries. People underestimate what the Salesforce platform underneath gives you: real permissions, a real audit trail, a real API. When our auditors asked who changed a salary field and when, I answered in ninety seconds.
Everything is reportable, everything is auditable, everything is automatable with workflows. HR requests that used to be email threads are now tracked processes with SLAs. Integration to our LMS and DocuSign was configuration, not a development project.
Releases occasionally shuffle admin menus around and the release notes could flag breaking changes more loudly. If you do not have Salesforce skills in house, budget for training or a managed service partner, it is not optional in my view.
