Fine at the start, creaks as you grow

We outgrew it and the last year has been frustrating. At around 40 staff and multiple revenue lines the reporting cannot answer the questions our board asks.

Reliable for the basics. VAT and payroll never missed a beat in three years, credit where due.

Cons

Report customisation hits a wall quickly. No proper departmental accounting. Exporting to Excel and rebuilding everything defeats the point of the software. We are moving to Intacct which is what Sage themselves suggested, which tells you where they see this product.

Invoices out, money in, faster

We moved off spreadsheets when the second employee started and I wish we had done it two years earlier. Everything since has been quicker and more accurate.

Wrong tool for us and hard work leaving

It may suit tiny simple businesses. For ours it created work, the very thing it was bought to remove, and getting our data out took longer than getting it in.

Works well for a small charity with a volunteer treasurer

I took over as treasurer with no accounting background. Sage has been forgiving of my mistakes and our independent examiner can see everything she needs.

Easy to correct errors with a clear trail of what changed. Customer statements go to our regular hirers automatically. The charity gets a decent price through our accountant.

Cons

No proper fund accounting, we approximate restricted funds with categories which works but is a workaround. Reports need renaming for charity terminology.
