Four stars, would recommend with pointers

Recommended by our accountant and it has worked out. The learning curve was a couple of weeks for my colleague who had never done bookkeeping.

A qualified recommendation

Bank feed drops from our smaller building society account keep creating catch up work. The main bank connection has been fine throughout.

Almost everything we need

The monthly cost is fair for what it does, especially with payroll included. Knock a star off for the occasional sluggish afternoon and limited invoice templates.

Taxi firm with cash and card chaos, this did not tame it

Maybe no software fixes a taxi office, in fairness. Cash jobs, card jobs, account customers and forty self employed drivers settling weekly. We wanted the account customer invoicing and driver settlements in one place and we ended up with workarounds for both, plus a support experience that kept pointing me at help articles I had already read.

Account customer invoicing itself is fine and the statements go out on time. Bank feed works.

Cons

Driver settlements do not fit any of the built in concepts so we bodge it with credit notes. Chat support pastes article links instead of reading the question. We may persist another six months but the honeymoon is over.

Sage Response— responded on 21 December 2025

Hello Russell, we are sorry the fit has been poor for your settlement model. Our team would like to look at whether supplier accounts per driver would serve better than the credit note approach. Please contact us and reference this review. Sage UK Customer Care

Copilot spots what I miss

Support answered on a Sunday morning during my first VAT return and stayed on until it was filed. That first impression has held up since.

CIS needs the Standard plan which caught us out at first.

Sorted our CIS mess in one month

Previous system was a spreadsheet my old business partner built and nobody understood. First CIS return through Sage matched what our accountant calculated by hand and she signed off on us doing it ourselves from then on.

CIS deductions on subcontractor bills happen automatically at the right rate once verified. Deduction statements email out to the subbies without me thinking about it. Phone support walked me through the first return start to finish.

Cons

Would like retentions handling for the bigger contracts, we track those manually.

First software my whole family business agrees on

Two years in and the books are simply not a worry anymore. Transactions come in from the bank overnight, most match themselves, and the VAT return is checked rather than compiled.

Multi currency on Plus paid for itself in the first quarter

We invoice clients in euros and dollars as well as sterling. The Plus plan handles the conversions and the exchange gains and losses report means our accountant stopped charging us for the manual workings.

Multi currency invoicing just works. Rates update automatically and the gains and losses are posted for you. Unlimited users meant I could give our ops manager access without a licence discussion.

Cons

You cannot hold a bank account in a foreign currency within the software, everything settles back to sterling. Works for us but might not for everyone.
