Solid and dependable, price aside

For a manufacturing business the stock and works handling justify it. For anything simpler I would say look at the cloud options first.

Very good, showing its age gracefully

A good honest tool. You buy it for the depth, you tolerate the looks, you negotiate the price.

Priced out of the product we built our processes on

A small charity cannot absorb these increases. We have used Sage 50 for over a decade, our restricted fund workarounds are built into it, and each renewal now forces the same painful conversation with trustees. This year we have voted to migrate to a cheaper product and I genuinely resent the time the move will take.

Familiarity after twelve years. The data itself has always been solid and exports cleanly enough for the migration, which I appreciate ironically.

Cons

The cost is simply no longer defensible for a charity our size. No proper fund accounting after all these years. Support pushed an upsell during a call about a billing error, which did not land well.

Denise, we are sorry to be losing the Trust after so long. We do offer charity pricing through our partner team and would welcome the chance to discuss it before your migration is final. Sage UK Customer Care

Works well, costs more each year

It does everything on the tin. The tin, however, is priced like a premium product while feeling like a legacy one.

Capable but increasingly hard to justify

If you have deep stock or group needs it still earns its place. Our needs simplified and we are probably a cloud customer now who has not admitted it.

Stock control worth the subscription alone

Moved from a cloud product back to Sage 50 because stock and order processing on the cloud side were toys by comparison. The difference in capability is not subtle.

Twenty years in and still my daily driver

Year end used to be a fortnight of stress. With the reports set up properly and a tidy audit trail it is now three days including the accountant queries.

Rock solid through every year end

It has swallowed fifteen years of our trading history and still opens a report across all of it in seconds. Long memory matters in a business like ours.

Runs a busy merchants counter, warehouse and three depots

Four thousand stock lines, trade customers on individual pricing, and purchase orders going out daily. We have looked at moving to cloud software twice and both times the stock and customer pricing requirements sent us straight back. Professional plan does all of it.

Customer specific pricing and discounts handled properly, our trade accounts each see their negotiated rates. Reorder levels keep the fast moving lines in stock. Sales orders to invoices to stock movement in one flow. Management reports across all three depots as departments.

Cons

When the counter is busy and four users are hammering it, the odd slowdown. Support waits in January tested my patience, twenty five minutes on hold twice.

Depth the cloud products still lack

Every VAT quarter for the last six years has gone to HMRC from the software without a single rejection. That kind of dependability buys a lot of forgiveness for dated screens.
