Not reliable enough for me

A run of bank feed problems and a support experience that never really resolved them meant I spent more time fighting the software than it saved me, and I have moved to something else.

Finally something built for people like me, not accountants

I have tried proper accounting software before and always felt out of my depth with nominal codes and jargon. This just asks what I earned and what I spent, in plain English, and does the rest. It is the first bookkeeping tool I have actually kept using.

The running tax estimate has genuinely changed how I save, I know roughly what I will owe rather than being ambushed in January. Receipt capture from my phone means nothing gets lost. Setting business against personal on my bank feed is a lifesaver since it is all one account.

Cons

It is single business only, so if I ever start a second venture I would need to move up. Support is fine but the community forum is where I found most answers.

Wish I had found it years ago

I am not a technology person at all and I can use it, which tells you everything you need to know about how simple it is. Cheap enough that it was an obvious decision.

Easy once you get going

A good, sensible tool for a small self employed income. It never makes me feel out of my depth, which fuller products always did, and that is exactly why I stuck with it.

Simple to a fault in places

It does what it says but I found myself wanting a little more detail in the expense categories and the reporting, even for a one person business.

No jargon, no stress

I signed up because the digital income tax changes were worrying me, and the quarterly submission turned out to be the easy part. I feel in control of my numbers for the first time since going self employed.

Got me ready for the new tax rules without the stress

I signed up because the Making Tax Digital income tax changes were keeping me up at night. The quarterly submission turned out to be the easy part, and I feel genuinely in control of my numbers for the first time since going freelance.

Pros

The quarterly MTD submission is genuinely simple, exactly what a nervous first timer needs. The tax estimate updates as I go so there are no surprises. Invoicing clients from the same app that tracks my expenses keeps everything in one place.

Cons

No payroll, so the day I take someone on I will need to look at Sage Accounting. Reporting is basic, though for a one person consultancy it is honestly enough.
